The Workplace Stars registry is open to all employers with ten or more full or part-time employees. It is non-competitive, except against established standards of workplace excellence.
Organizations undergo a comprehensive evaluation process in order to be Workplace Stars rated. The organizations that become rated must demonstrate outstanding commitment to listen to their marketplace, employees, and customers.
The participating organizations are assessed in the following areas:
- Trust in Senior Leaders
- People and management practices
- Service to others
- Open and honest communication between employees and managers
- Employee loyalty and retention
- Individual accountability and execution driving results as a team.
- Employee growth and learning opportunities
- Interesting and challenging work
Two criteria are used to determine if an organization will be rated, and at what level of excellence:

To use the Workplace Stars Trustmark, organizations are required to:
- Register for rating where organization is located;
- Provide Workplace Stars with detailed registration information regarding organization's demographic profile and contact information;
- Achieve a Workplace Stars Survey rating of at least 3.01 on a 5.0 scale;
- Agree to allow Workplace Stars to disclose key rating results online;
- Apply for re-rating every 12 months.
