That’s a question I was recently asked by one of my client’s I coach. After he was done venting about how he thought the interview went well but the recruiter after numerous check-backs finally said they found someone else more qualified. I said this-

Other commonly recognized performance excellence levers appear easy to move in comparison. Got bad managers? Fire the worst; then train—and reward—the remaining managers for behaviors that engage. Experiencing a disconnect on the branding front? Enlist the training department to lead a learning program to skill-up the workforce.

I often find meaningful metaphors for change in nature. Last week, I gave myself a gift of a few fun days after exhibiting and presenting a breakout session at a national conference, and did some hiking in Napa Valley. It was my first time in this beautiful region. After many rainy days in California, the sun was shining, the air was warm… and the trail was muddy! My goal for the day was to enjoy the fresh air, explore the park and the nearby town of Calistoga.

If you have ever taken a course on time management you may have found it’s like trying to put one gallon of time in a half gallon container? Yes, there is a place for time management but is learning to “manage time” going to revolutionize your life? What we need is not “time management” but a “time revolution”.
