5. Why Workplace Stars?

Answer:

We have a passion to help the world be a better workplace by creating better places to thrive and win (…and we are not embarrassed to say it publicly). In addition, we are of service by providing a side-by-side comparison of workplace cultures that result in continuous improvement for employers, staff and communities.

Many organizations’ listening skills are at a pretty darn shallow level. Rarely from neglect, but from constant pressure to produce and deliver results. For everyone to thrive and win, a powerful tool is needed that encourages:

  • employers to intensely listen to staff;
  • staff to intensely listen to employers; and,
  • both employers and staff to listen intensely to the marketplace.

6. Getting warmer…tell me about that radio station WII-FM: What’s-In-It-For-Me?

Answer:

Here is where low ratings in Stewardship, Engagement or Service affect your organizational metrics:

  • Revenue or surplus growth
  • Increased focus on cause, service, learning, healing or profitability
  • Retention
  • Recruitment efficiency
  • Client or customer retention and loyalty
  • Presenteeism or absenteeism

7. What qualifies Workplace Stars to determine workplace excellence?

Answer:

We have performed thousands of surveys over several decades. From this experience, the items in our questionnaire statistically correlate to moving the needle on key metrics, staff retention and improved customer service. Have other issues at your organization you wish to address? We will customize a solution to fit your needs.

8. Why would an organization pay to get rated?

Answer:

Why would any organization not want to be rated? In real estate it is said that three things are important: location-location-location. For organizations it is branding, branding and branding. Every organization, be it profit, nonprofit or public competes…competes for business, competes for funding or competes for public perception. Our rating solution helps organizations win valuable “share-of-mind” real estate.

9. What makes Workplace Stars different?

Answer:

Several things make us different, including:

1. Golden Goose. We focus exclusively on culture as a driver to help organizational bottom-lines through a commitment to excellence. Ours is a workplace survey, not just an employee survey. We care about the organization's health as well as the people who serve it. We provide insight needed to be better than your competition, create more buzz about your organization, it products and services, and bring more value by moving the needle on key metrics important to your organization.
2. Win-Win-Win. We don’t run a contest. We don’t “rank and yank.” We help organizations win by identifying how they can get the needle of performance moving on metrics important to their organization. We help staff win by providing them with a valuable role in the improvement process. The third win is what really sets us apart—we serve the public interest in helping to improve the quality of life and economic strength of communities through the connection of global workplace excellence.
3. Workplace Zagat’s. We help organization’s get deserved visibility and recognition by creating better places to thrive and work. We help the public by providing information about what it’s really like to work at an organization.

We believe that managers should not have to be statisticians. We offer a global toggle in our solution dashboard to display results in either of two views:

  • simple Star Ratings view (the choice of busy executives) or,
  • detailed raw scores (for the analysts and data mavens)

10. Aren’t you a survey company?

Answer:

Not in a traditional way – we’re a survey company on a mission to promote global workplace excellence. No kidding, we really want the world be a better place to work! Our mission is to make public, on an optional basis, a side-by-side comparison of workplace cultures. Organizations who successfully meet predetermined standards of excellence will be publicly recognized as a premium organization through our exclusive Trustmark process. Those on our registry will have:

  • Achieved a rating of at least 3.01 on 5.0 scale and met a minimum participation requirement
  • Agreed to share key rating results online
  • Apply for re-rating every 12 months

13. What does the Workplace Stars Survey measure?

Answer:

It measures Stewardship, Staff Engagement and Service, including such issues as retention, customer satisfaction and leadership. You will have online access to a suite of game-changing reports that help turn insights into action. Most importantly, our reports are intuitive and simple to read. We have an expert team of Ph.D. level professionals to make sense of the numbers so you don't have to.

14. How do you know it is accurate?

Answer:

Our Ph.D. experts have vetted the survey questions against research that shows a relationship between high workplace excellence scores and staff performance. This, in turn, is linked to organizational outcomes. By addressing the issues that increase workplace excellence, employers are able move the needle of key metrics critical to organizational success. In addition, we have also cross-verified the questions with Kenexa: (http://www.kenexa.com); Mayflower Benchmark Consortium (http://www.mayflowergroup.org/) and the Gallup Organization (http://www.gallup.com/consulting/52/employee-engagement.aspx.)

15. Survey data is just data – what are we going to do with it?

Answer:

Once you have your survey results, you’re not alone in facing the biggest challenge – how do you transform insight into action?

In addition to our leading practice Rollout Success Guide available exclusively in your Client Panel Resource Center, the Workplace Stars Solution has an online improvement target tool designed to help you transform your workplace survey results into an ongoing plan for improvement. The Workplace Stars Solution allows you to share the results — and the responsibility — with front-line supervisors and managers.

The Workplace Stars Solution breaks down results to each manager’s area of responsibility. The premium report recommends quick and intermediate wins to improve stewardship, engagement or service. Your managers must stay focused on running the organization, not analyzing data. As a result, the Workplace Stars Solution provides short, easy to understand reports that clearly identify areas for improvement. In addition, we provide current to previous comparison feedback that helps identify progress or regress and link outcomes to measurable improvement.

16. Who has access to the results?

Answer:

A super administrator controls access permissions and can grant anyone within the organization or a department access to the report . This makes it easy to share information to improve results. Our experience is that it takes a team to help a team. Moving insights into action is beyond what one person can do alone.

17. Are employee responses confidential?

Answer:

Yes. That said, regardless of this fact, some people will not trust that their data and identity is safe. We go to great lengths in our instructions to participants to encourage them to be honest in their responses. We remind them that their answers are strictly confidential and anonymous. Fact is no data is released unless four (4) or more participates have responded. If we lose our credibility we lose your trust and your desire to be associated with us, as well as everyone you tell. We obsessively protect our relationships.

18. How long does the survey take to complete?

Answer:

Participants consistently report that it takes them about 10-15 minutes to complete. The Workplace Stars Solution includes scale, multiple-choice and open response questions. Staff respond to questions within a range of "Strongly Agree" to "Strongly Disagree," with a not-applicable (N/A) option available.

We understand staff members are busy people. If they are interrupted in the middle of the survey, they can save and finish at a later date. Their responses will be stored so they don't have to start over again.

19. Can you give an example of some questions?

Answer:

Here’s one category question from each dimension.

Stewardship Dimension — actions that protect the long term viability, financial health and well-being of the organization and its people.
Leadership Category: I trust the senior leadership team to make the changes necessary to ensure future success.

Engagement Dimension — internal factors necessary for staff to act from choice and be fully committed to the success of the organization.
Job Satisfaction Category: I have access to the resources I need to be successful.

Service Dimension — behaviors from senior management to the frontline for being in service to clients and each other.
Service to Others Category: My workgroup constantly looks for ways to achieve better outcomes for those we serve.

20. How do I get started?

Answer:

This is the easiest part. Register at www.workplacestars.com, call +1-888-402-0088 or email info@workplacestars.com to get started.

21. What does getting started mean?

Answer:

After we process payment, you will receive a URL and special code to register and gain access to your Client Panel. Your next step is to add participants and define groups. When this is completed, participants will be notified by email to take the survey. We are always available to help as necessary.

22. Do you offer other services?

Answer:

Not directly. We have a global ecosystem of expert performance improvement service partners. They offer a spectrum of services, including consulting, training and coaching, to address the issues uncovered in the survey results.

We offer customized survey solutions. For more information, contact Workplace Stars at (888) 402-0088 or info@workplacestars.com

23. The last thing the world needs is another survey?

Answer:

You’re right. The world can do without an employee survey which reinforces a one-sided, entitlement—“what’s in it for me” mindset. This is why we measure core success factors that help everyone win. A balanced solution focused on the organizational "goose that lays the golden eggs." The "golden goose" capable of creating abundance for all.

24. Who would want to be published if they have less than 5 stars?

Answer:

The minimum standard for one star is excellence. Excellence means the organization is on the positive end of the scale and is a positive place to thrive and work. There are five degrees of excellence. You may know that five stars are awarded by some military organizations only during a time of war, a rare occurrence. This being the case, if you were a one or two star General, would you wear this achievement proudly?

For us, and the organization we work with, being rated one or two stars is cause for celebration not embarrassment.
